Our Vision

Educating through storytelling, we use sport as the vehicle to normalise mental health conversations and optimise performance  across workplaces and sporting clubs. By building the knowledge, mental skills, and capabilities of people and teams, organisations are then equipped to be resilient and thrive, and in turn gain a competitive advantage. By Athletes, for everyone, and plenty of fun!

About Us

The traits that make a successful athlete are not that different to what makes a successful employee... if athletes only focus on their physical skills and fitness they never reach their potential. Head Trainer is here to train you and your team to be mentally fit. Like any athlete, we form teams with coaches, leaders and teammates who support each other and are connected. Training is valued as a normal part of your life. Having more mentally fit people on a team helps foster a culture of positive mental health and well-being in your workplace or sporting club. We provide the coaching and training to assist you and your team to become mentally fit. Prioritising mental fitness allows you to build your resilience, support others, and optimise your performance.

Mental ill-health cost's the Australian economy an estimated $60B each year. 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness over a 12 month period and take time off from work, with that number closer to 1 in 2 over the course of a lifetime. Organisations can and should be pro-active in addressing the well-being needs of their people. Everyone experiences change, loss and grief at some stage in your life and your resilience will be tested.

Our team will partner with you to co-design a well-being plan or enhance schemes currently in place. We can teach you the skills to keep you mentally fit, engaged and connected.  Organisations will improve retention whilst building the knowledge, skills and confidence of staff and leaders. Our practical approach will seamlessly integrate into your community and ensure traction and sustainability long after we are gone.

A better connected group promotes an environment where people can be honest, be more open to receiving feedback, and represent the brand with pride.  You will increase productivity and decrease absenteeism by creating a safe work environment. Get access to the digital or hard copy of our 28 day mental skills training program. Our preferred method is to educate your staff with the 'what? why? and when?'  of mental health and well-being and follow with actions and mental skills training to embed tangible results. The training is fun, simple, and can be done by yourself or as a part of a team. The training will promote a positive mindset, focus, team-connection and more energy.

What is a Mental Health Game Plan (MHGP)

image934

We work alongside you to assess your organisation

We've all heard of a game plan and this is no different. We assess your strengths and weaknesses to develop a MHGP that best suits your team. We spend quality time with your organisation's leadership group to determine any existing challenges, cultural norms, business goals, and staff behaviours. We look for opportunities that require a combination of education & training  as well as goal setting to promote effective change.

image935

Develop your personal MHGP

Using a strengths-based approach, we formulate a draft to present back to you with a framework on identified areas of improvement and strategies to implement this change. We foster your initiatives, including workplace education, establishing new cultural norms and processes, or internal events to build culture and improve performance.  Learn what mental skills you can carry in your 'kit bag'.  We work to develop your own internal agents for change who will lead the evolution, and we also offer the opportunity to access our Athlete Advocates.

Business continuity and ongoing support

Incorporate positive mental health into your business continuity planning. Create an environment where internal and external stakeholders thrive, remain loyal, and reach higher levels of performance. Our goal when partnering with you is to have the exit plan in mind by utilising your investment to empower long term sustainable change from within. Enhance - don't disrupt, the capability or your business and let the world know about it!

Meet the team

David Shillington

image939

David has been a leader in the mental health space since retiring as a professional athlete. As a former professional athlete, it was natural that he spent a lot of time working on his physical fitness, but it was when he invested in his mental health to improve his mental fitness, that he really thrived on and off the field. He takes a practical, relatable and light-hearted approach to mental health conversations and education, hoping to help re-frame mental health as a skill-set for individuals and organisations rather than a taboo topic. He has conducted over 200 well-being education sessions, connecting and engaging with 'even the hard-to-reach' . His education sessions and mental skills training programs help people and organisations not only avoid the pitfalls of poor mental health but to really thrive and in-turn, gain a competitive advantage.
